Acids and bases are determined by the theory of electrolytes and depends on the formation of H+ and OH- ions in aqueous solutions.
Acids, when dissolved in water, increase the concentration of H+
HBr + H20 → H3O+ + Br-
Strong Acids include:
HCl Hydrochloric acid
HBr Hydrobromic acid
HI Hydroiodic acid
HNO3 Nitric acid
HClO4 Perchloric acid
H2SO4 Sulfuric acid
Sample Questions:
1. Ionization of Sulfuric acid?
HClO4 + H20 → ClO4- + H3O+
2. Ionization of Phosphoric acid?
H2SO4 + H20 → H3O+ + HSO4-
then
HSO4- + H20 → H3O+ + PO4(2)-

Difference between hypertonic, hypotonic, and isotonic?
Osmosis: The movement of water molecules from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration.
All cells are permiable thus allowing the movement of water from the outside of the cell to the inside.
Hypotonic Solution: the cell has a higher concentration in it than in the area surrounding it. Water moves into the cell to equal out concentration.
Isotonic Solution: The cell has a equal proportion of concentration with the area surrounding. Water continually flows in and out to keep concentration even.
Hypertonic Solution: Concentration of the cell is less than outside of the cell. Water moves out of the cell to try to even out the concentration.

Periodic Table
Every row going left to right is a called a period starting at the top with 1 down to 7. Labeling the columns going from top to bottom is called a Group or Family.
The Group 1,2 and 3 through 8 are called main groups while the 3 through 12 are the Transition metals.
The elements B, SI, Ge, AS, Sb, Te, down the zig zag bar to the right are called semimetals (metalloids). Everything to the right of them are called Nonmetals and everything to the left are called metals.
The number on top of every element are the amount of protons in that specific element. The number below them with all the decimals is the averaged atomic mass of the element.
